Geography - 3 Religions Project

Throughout most of history, religion has played a powerful and influential role. Though there are more than 4,000 religions practiced around the world, we will focus on the major three, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.  
Using information from the links provided, you will work individually or in a pair to complete the tasks assigned to you.

1.      Complete chart on your chosen Religion.
2.      Research your Religion and the category’s that are listed below. 
3.      Create a poster-sized flyer to educate others on your Religion

1.      Origins/Roots of the Belief System
a.      What are the foundations of your religion? Where did it begin? Who started it? When was it started?
2.      Demographics/Geography
a.      What percentage of the world's population adheres to your religion? Where is it most popular?  Does your religion have a sacred site/place? Describe it. Where is this site? Why is it important?  A map may be useful here.
3.      History
a.      How has your religion grown over history? What other events took place with regards to your religion?  Are there different groups within your religion?
4.      Important Figures
a.      Who are the important figures in the history of the religion?  Does your religion have a sacred symbol or object? Describe it. What is the object? What does it symbolize? Why is this important? 
5.      Beliefs/Values
a.      Is it monotheistic or polytheistic?  What are the name(s) of god(s)? What are they like? Any other special beliefs?  Does your religion have a sacred text? Describe it. When was it written? Who was it written by? How was this text passed on to future generations?  Are there any important quotes to include?
6.      Worship/Religious Practices
a.      Where do they worship? What rituals do they follow?  What are the other major beliefs or worldviews of your religion? How should one live their life? What happens after death? How should others be treated?
7.      Holidays/Celebrations/Significant Days
a.      Describe the way your religion worships and celebrates. What are its traditions? Why do they worship and celebrate in this way?  Identify important holidays and how they celebrate.
